Sharing your FreeAgent data

How to securely share your FreeAgent data with Validis

FreeAgent is a cloud accounting package, so there is nothing to download or install. You start the share from your engagement in the Validis portal, sign in to FreeAgent to authorise it, and the data transfers between the two systems. You can do this from any computer with a supported web browser.

Before you start

Check these things before you begin. Sorting them out now avoids getting interrupted partway through the upload.

• Make sure you're online. Your data is sent while the process runs, so a stable internet connection is needed throughout.
• Have a FreeAgent account that can reach the data you want to share.
• Know the user ID and password for that account. You'll enter these into FreeAgent's own sign in page, not into the Validis portal.
• Have an Admin account type, or one that can set up and disconnect connected apps. Your IT team can confirm this if you are not sure.

Step 1

Get started with your engagement

Log in to the Validis portal, select the Engagement you want to upload data for, then select Share Data Now.

Step 2

Choose your accounting package

Type FreeAgent into the search box and select FreeAgent Cloud, then select Next. The panel on the right confirms your choice. There is no download step, because FreeAgent connects to Validis directly.

Step 3

Sign in to FreeAgent

Your browser is redirected to FreeAgent so you can authorise the connection securely. Enter your FreeAgent details and select Login.

The sign in page shows the FreeAgent logo at the top, along with a description of the application asking for your accounting data, so you can check the request is genuine.

Step 4

Approve the connection

Select Approve to let Validis access your accounting data.

Step 5

Back in the portal

You are redirected back to the Validis portal, and the upload is complete. There is nothing more for you to do. You can check the progress of your share on your dashboard.
