How to securely share your Microsoft Dynamics Finance & Operations data with Validis
Dynamics Finance & Operations connects to Validis directly, so there is nothing to install. You start the share from your engagement in the Validis portal, point it at your Dynamics environment, sign in with your Microsoft account, and choose the company you want to share. The steps below walk through the whole process.
Before you start
Check these things before you begin. Sorting them out now avoids getting interrupted partway through the upload.
- Make sure you're online. Your data is sent while the process runs, so a stable internet connection is needed throughout.
- Have a Dynamics F&O Administrator account that can reach the company you're sharing. You'll sign in with it partway through.
- Know the user ID and password for that account. You'll enter these into Microsoft's own sign in page, not into the Validis portal.
- Know the URL you use to reach Dynamics. You'll need part of it during setup, which is covered in Step 3.
Permissions the uploading account needs
The account doing the upload must have both the System Administrator and System User roles assigned in Dynamics. If either role is missing, the upload will fail.
To check, sign in to Dynamics F&O and go to System Administration, then Users.
Find the user in the list and select Edit. The roles assigned to that account are shown there.
Sharing your Finance & Operations data
Step 1
Get started with your engagement
Log in to the Validis portal, where you'll see the engagements assigned to you. Select the relevant Engagement, then select Share Data Now.
Step 2
Choose your accounting package
Search for or select your accounting package from the list. If not already selected, choose Microsoft Dynamics Finance and Operations, then select Next.
Step 3
Enter your Dynamics Finance Base URL
You are asked for the Dynamics Finance Base URL. This is not the whole address you use to reach Dynamics, only the part before .dynamics.com.

Enter that section of the URL, then select Next.
Step 4
Sign in to your Microsoft account
If you are prompted to authenticate, sign in with your Microsoft account. This is your Dynamics F&O account.
Step 5
Approve access
On a first upload, your Cloud Application Administrator may need to approve Validis Dynamics 365 Finance before it can reach Dynamics. If you see this screen and cannot approve it yourself, ask them to.
Step 6
Select your company
Once you have signed in and approval is complete, choose the company you want to upload from the dropdown.
Step 7
Start the upload
Select Next, and your upload begins. You'll be notified by email when it's complete.
