Sharing your MYOB data

How to securely share your MYOB data with Validis

MYOB is a cloud accounting package, so there is nothing to download or install. You start the share from your engagement in the Validis portal, sign in to MYOB to authorise it, and choose the company to share.

This article covers MYOB Business, MYOB Essentials and MYOB Business Pro, where your accounting data is hosted online. If your company file is stored on your own computer or a networked server instead, you are using MYOB AccountRight. AccountRight is shared using vClient rather than the online connection described here, so this guide does not apply to it.

Before you start

Check these things before you begin. Sorting them out now avoids getting interrupted partway through the upload.

  • Make sure you're online. Your data is sent while the process runs, so a stable internet connection is needed throughout.
  • Have an MYOB account that can reach the data you want to share.
  • Know the user ID and password for that account. You'll enter these into MYOB's own sign in page, not into the Validis portal.
  • Be able to open the inbox for that email address. MYOB sends a verification code to it partway through.

Step 1

Get started with your engagement

Log in to the Validis portal, select the relevant Engagement, then select Share Data Now.

Step 2

Choose your accounting package

Search for or select your accounting package from the list. If not already selected, choose MYOB, then select Next. There is no download step, because MYOB connects to Validis directly.

Step 3

Enter your email address

You are taken to the MYOB sign-in process. Enter the email address you use to log in to MYOB, then select Next. You are then asked for your password.

Step 4

Sign in

Enter your password and select Sign In. MYOB then takes you through its authentication process.

Step 5

Enter your verification code

MYOB emails a code to the address you entered. Enter the code and select Verify.

Step 6

Allow access

The first time you connect to Validis, MYOB shows you who will have access to your account. The name of your financial institution is shown on the screen. To carry on sharing your data with them, select Allow Access.

Step 7

Choose your company

Every company on your account is listed. Select the one holding the data you want to share. Only one company can be selected per engagement.

Companies shown greyed out cannot be selected here. These are versions shared a different way, such as AccountRight, which uses vClient.

Step 8

Submit

Select Submit, and your data is extracted. You are brought back to the Validis portal, and there is nothing more for you to do. You can check the progress of your share on your dashboard.
